Stephen Klasko

  • President and CEO
  • Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health

As the President and CEO of Philadelphia-based Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, Stephen K. Klasko, MD, MBA, is known nationally as a champion for transformation in healthcare delivery and education. He has fought for change as university president, as dean of two medical colleges, and as CEO of three academic health centers. This year he published his new book, We CAN Fix Healthcare in America, and he launched the journal Healthcare Transformation as editor in chief.

A native of Philadelphia, he returned to the city to lead Jefferson, and quickly transformed the historic institution from a three hospital system to a 12-hospital system, going from $1.8 billion in revenues to almost $5 billion. And he is proposing a merger with Philadelphia University, which would give Jefferson an undergraduate partner and pipeline.
For Dr. Klasko, this means creating the university and health system of the future. When the mergers are complete, Jefferson will have revenues of $4.8 billion, 28,000 employees, 7,800 students, 6,000 physicians and clinicians and 4,000 faculty.
